After he was arrested, Steve spent time in three prisons in various parts of Mexico. His first three months of incarceration took place in San Luis Rio Colorado on the international border with the United States, adjacent to San Luis, Arizona. He was then moved to the Old Nogales prison, where he remained for apporximately nine months. His final stinit of prison torture occurred at the new Nogales prison, Centro de Readaptacion Sociale, where he spent a very long three months before making his successful escape.

Below is a satellite image of Centro de Readaptacion Sociale taken from Google Maps in 2009. Since his escape in 1974, the prison has expanded quite a bit. Even the satellite images, althogh seen using the internet from the comfort of our civilized American nieghborhoods, are enough to send shivers down the spine of those who spent time here.

The images seen below were taken by a Catholic priest in 1974. Steve kindly asked the priest to take photos of the prison area from the guard towers. He lied to the priest telling him he planned to send the pictures to family back in the States, all the while knowing he would use them as a tool to aide in his escape.
